What Is It?

Continuing Medical Education (CME) is a requirement for MDs and DOs to maintain their medical licenses and stay current with advances in medicine. Licensing boards and medical associations set the requirements, and they vary by state and specialty.

Jiro is an accredited CME platform. AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ accumulate automatically in your account. No separate CME workflow is required.

Jiro awards AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ to qualifying MDs and DOs and uploads them annually to the ACCME PARS system, as required. Other qualifying physicians may receive designated credits. They must upload their transcripts manually to their reporting body.

Jiro awards AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ to eligible physicians for specific activities within Jiro. Credits are awarded without interrupting your workflow and are tracked directly in your account.

Eligibility: Physicians (MDs and DOs) are eligible to earn AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and others cannot earn AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. They may receive designated credits to satisfy their own licensing requirements.

Jiro submits all awarded AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ to PARS as the ACCME program requires. Credits are reported to your state or country of licensure annually.

Clinicians can earn and be awarded AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ directly within Jiro. Jiro is authorized to issue AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ through a joint partnership with MedicusCME, an ACCME-accredited provider.

Earning Periods

AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ are organized into annual earning periods that run from January 1 through December 31. Credits earned within a period are attributed to that period in your activity history and on your transcript. The CME tab on your Profile page shows totals for the current period and your lifetime earned total.

Credits from an earning period are reported by the end of March the following year. If you hold an MD or DO, Jiro submits your credits to PARS automatically. If you self-report to your accrediting body, download your transcript for that period and submit it by the same deadline.

Complete a CME-Eligible Activity

Use Jiro to complete one of the eligible activities listed above.

Select "Claim Credit"

After you complete a CME-eligible activity, Jiro presents the option to claim AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ for that activity.

Complete Attestation & Acknowledgement

Respond to the questions about your experience in Research, Consult, or Discover. They cover whether the content enhances your understanding of a clinical topic and whether you plan to apply the knowledge to your practice. They also cover the content's relevance to your specialty and whether it is free of commercial bias.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ Are Awarded

After you submit the attestation, your AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ are awarded and logged in your Jiro account.

If you do not select "Claim Credit" after an eligible activity, you can still complete the acknowledgement and attestation. Go to your Profile page and open the CME tab. At the bottom of the tab, the Unclaimed section lets you complete the CME redemption process for completed activities.

How to View Your Credit Balance

The CME tab is on your Profile page. It shows your current earning period, lifetime credit total, claimed and unclaimed activities, and transcript download options.

Credit Summary

See total credits earned for the current earning period and your lifetime total. A breakdown shows credits by activity type and each activity's percentage contribution.

Monthly Chart

View your credit activity over time. The chart shows how CME activity has accumulated across the earning period.

Claimed & Unclaimed Tabs

These tabs list every qualifying activity in the current period, sorted by date and activity. In the Unclaimed tab, click "Claim Credit" to finish redeeming credits. In the Claimed tab, view your awarded credits and the activity tied to each one.

Download Transcript

At the bottom of the CME tab, download your CME transcript for the earning period. The button provides a PDF copy of earned credits.

How Jiro Reports AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™

Jiro submits AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ to the ACCME PARS data transfer system by bulk upload, as ACCME requires.

Automatic submission applies to physicians holding an MD or DO degree. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants receive designated credits. They are responsible for self-reporting to their accrediting bodies, which they can do by downloading their transcript.

Only MDs and DOs can earn AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Other clinicians may receive designated credits.
Jiro submits credits to PARS automatically for MDs and DOs. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants must self-report using their downloaded transcript.
Credits from an earning period are reported by the end of March the following year. Earning periods run January 1 through December 31.
In Consult, you can claim credit once per chat, not once per question in the same chat.
If you skip "Claim Credit" after an activity, complete the attestation later from the Unclaimed section of the CME tab on your Profile page.
